The brief for the development was to provide for an eighteen-level building, comprising a private basement cark, and ‘urban plaza’, retention and rejuvenation of the existing local heritage hotel, spacious ground floor foyer and retail tenancy, office space, plant rooms and services and two penthouses to the top of the building.
I was involved in site research, concept wireframe and rendering.
Brief
How to preserve a heritage hotel while building a new building?
Challenge
The development seeks to set a positive precedent for the type and quality of future development in the locality: a precedent based on high design quality, retention of existing historic built form, user amenity, social interaction and environmental Reponses.
Goals
Site Research
After I did site research, I found inspirations. What I took away were:
1. The historical hotel needs to be integrated with the new building, remove the roof, and increase the connectivity between the two buildings through breathing space.
2. After ensuring the usage needs of different users on each floor, determine the design elements and layout.
3. Combine with adjacent buildings to make it stand out.
